Frequently Asked Questions (Ghana Network Prefixes)

What are all the MTN Ghana phone number prefixes in 2026?

MTN Ghana uses five official 3-digit mobile prefixes: 024, 054, 055, 059, and the newest 025 prefix block (written in international format as +233 24, +233 54, +233 55, +233 59, and +233 25).

Which network uses 020 and 050 in Ghana?

The 020 and 050 prefixes belong to Telecel Ghana (formerly Vodafone Ghana). In international format, they are written as +233 20 and +233 50.

Which network uses 027, 057, 026, and 056 in Ghana?

All four prefixes (027, 057, 026, and 056) belong to AT Ghana (formerly AirtelTigo). Originally, 027 and 057 were Tigo Ghana prefixes while 026 and 056 were Airtel Ghana prefixes before the two networks merged into AT.

How many digits is a valid Ghana mobile phone number?

Every valid Ghana mobile phone number has exactly 10 digits when written in local format starting with 0 (for example, 0595753044). When written in international format with the +233 country code, the leading 0 is dropped, leaving 9 subscriber digits after +233 (for example, +233595753044).

Can a 024 or 020 number belong to a different network if it was ported?

Yes. Under Ghana Mobile Number Portability (MNP) via shortcode 600, a subscriber can switch networks while keeping their original number and prefix. If a number was ported, you should select the active network the SIM currently operates on when buying data bundles.

Why does sending an MTN data bundle to a Telecel or AT number fail?

Data bundles are provisioned directly on the recipient mobile network server. Sending an MTN bundle to a 020/050 (Telecel) or 027/026 (AT) number will fail unless the number has been ported to MTN. Using our Network Checker above ensures you always select the right network.
